Coffee is at the heart of Seattle culture and we love it. Here is what we’ve found to be the best instructions to create the tastiest cup of coffee.
Grind your beans: Start by grinding your beans to a medium-fine consistency. You can use a manual or electric grinder, depending on your preference. Aim for about 7 grams of coffee per cup (about 120 ml).
Boil water: Next, bring your water to a boil. Using the Fellow electric kettle, push down on the dial to power on and set the temperature to 209 degrees (or your desired temperature). Wait until the water reaches the set temperature.
Set up your pour over: Place the stainless steal pour over on top of your mug or the carafe. If you are using a paper filter, wet it with hot water to remove any excess paper taste.
Add the coffee: Pour your ground coffee into the filter.
Pour the water: Slowly pour the hot water over the coffee, starting at the center and working your way outward in a circular motion. Pour just enough water to wet the grounds and let them “bloom” for about 30 seconds. This allows the coffee to release its gases and flavors.
Continue pouring: After the blooming period, continue pouring the water in a circular motion, trying to cover all of the grounds evenly. Aim for a total brewing time of about 3 minutes.
Remove the pour over: Once the brewing is complete, remove the pour over and discard the filter. Stir the coffee gently to mix it evenly, and enjoy!
